The Loft Community Partnership would like to thank the Rotary Club of Lancaster South and the Rotary District 7390 for their recent grant! This grant was used to purchase materials and equipment for the Loft’s food garden and greenhouse, with funding split equally between the Club and the District.
Members and friends of the Loft and the Rotary Club of Lancaster South gathered on Saturday, September 12 to assemble the equipment purchased and prepare space for the garden. This included mulching and construction of tables, a potting station, and raised planters, which were nicknamed “canoes” due to their shape.
Once setup is completed, the food garden and greenhouse will provide seasonal fresh produce to our Food Pantry neighbors. Additionally, it will be used as an educational resource to teach our community about growing their own produce alongside classes teaching how to cook with what is grown.
Martha MacAdam, Director at Large of Lancaster South, explained why they chose the Loft’s food garden and greenhouse project: “Our club was drawn to this project because of its direct and sustainable impact on the community. We saw an opportunity to provide a space that not only grows fresh food but also serves as an educational tool for teaching clients how to cultivate their own produce, aligning perfectly with our goals of service and self-sufficiency.”
As for their mission locally, the Rotary Club of Lancaster South supports the Imagination Library program, high school scholarships, and the community through various projects throughout the year.
